I despise ‘technology for technologies sake’.

But 2023 started off with real game-changing innovations!

OpenAI’s Chat GPT (A.I. language) and Nostr (a decentralized Twitter) are both examples of cutting-edge technology that are helping to pave the way for the next generation of the internet, known as “Web 3.”

GPT, (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is machine learning model that can generate natural language text. This model is trained on a massive dataset of text from the internet, allowing it to write coherent and coherently human-like paragraphs on a wide variety of topics.

Need to write out a family recipe? With instructions, some light humour in the tone of say, Ryan Reynolds? Pfft Easy.

It’s like having a magic genie that can write your emails, tweet for you, or even pen the next great American novel.

Just feed it a dataset and voila!

Nostr (pronounced gnaw-ster), on the other hand, is not an ‘App’ or ‘Program’ — it’s a ‘Protocol’ (set of rules and code) that if users follow, lets them securely store and access their personal data, right now in the form of a messing service akin to Twitter.

In contrast to the centralized systems that are commonly used today like Twitter, Nostr’s decentralized architecture allows users to have full control over their ‘messages’, giving them the ability to share or sell it as they wish — every user can host their own data in something called a ‘relay’.

Imagine it like this. Twitter is a closed system. It’s a closed racecourse like Daytona 500. Some are invited, some are not. It’s branded. They choose who races and who doesn’t.

Nostr is a framework and rules set of a roadway. Anyone can join and build a vehcile to drive on it.

Oh, and the best part, there are no gatekeepers. If you encounter someone you dislike, you can simply ‘turn-off’ having to drive by them.

This isn’t to let people run amock with harmful or vile content. Some moderation or laws of what people do in digitally public spaces is needed and will have to be addressed likely by our governments and laws.

By putting users in control of their personal data, Nostr helps to create a more and transparent web, where data is not controlled by a small number of companies or individuals. Or used for profits.

The real game changer here is the connection to Bitcoin. Bitcoin and Web 3 are a dynamic duo that complement each other perfectly. Bitcoin allows for a decentralized and secure way to store and transfer value, while Web 3 technologies like GPT and Nostr enable us to take control of our data and information.

And Nostr already has Bitcoin micropayments like the Lightning Network built in!

Oh and did I mention that Twitter’s creator and first CEO, Jack Dorsey, who might I add, is now head of Block (formerly Square) payment system is a HUGE supporter of the project? Yes, in his spare time when he’s not developing Block’s own Crypto hardware wallet or other endeavours, he’s helping build this arcitecture.

So, join the revolution and help build a better, decentralized internet for all.

Together, with GPT, and protocols like Nostr and Bitcoin, we can create a digital realm where everyone has the power to make and control their own information and data.
