As both a trader and developer: I’ve lost count of the times I’ve needed a virtual server.
Whether it be for running a bot that needs to be live 24/7, hosting a website with a powerful dapp behind it, or for storage solutions — I’ve always struggled to find a provider that doesn’t apply some kind of insane markup because I choose to pay with Ethereum as opposed to a credit card.
Those that have been in my situation will most certainly agree that providers that accept cryptocurrency payments are either:
A — Intrusive, requiring a credit card payment and address details first.
B — Charge 5–8x the amount of a regular VPS for a the same service
C — Only have servers in strange locations
D — Have bizarre customer support or interfaces
Last week — I found a provider that I’d never heard of and literally couldn’t believe my eyes at the prices I was seeing.
For $170 a month (paid with Ethereum) I was able to get a dedicated server with the following specs:
ProLiant DL360 Gen9
2 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5–2680 v3 @ 2.50GHz
256GB DDR4 RAM @ 2600MHz
4 X 2TB Samsung SSD 870 QVO (8 terabytes of storage!)
48 Cores
For the unaware, $170 may seem like a lot of money, but here’s a list of (non-dedicated) Vultr servers that have comparable specs to my machine:
As you can see, the mark up on Vultr compared to Interserver is absolutely ridiculous. This will be a common theme among every provider you come across — that I can promise you.
I also understand that my server is grossly over-spec for most projects. If you’re not looking to splooge that much per month and maybe you just want a small machine to most a wordpress website… how does $30 USD per year ($2.50 per month) sound?
Ridiculous, right?
This will be a short article compared to most, but as someone whose server costs are usually their biggest overhead — I just had to share this company with people. The support is next level, the servers are provisioned extremely quickly, they’ve smashed my benchmark tests (I was super
skeptical after I purchased because of the price) with ease.
To be short, sweet and to the point… They need more love.
If you’re like me and pay over the odds just for the luxury of paying with Ethereum instead of a card — the search is over.
I’m always up for learning about other hosts too. If you know of any other crypto friendly hosting services that provide similar specs for prices like this, please let me know in the comments.
